I have downloaded the Arduino environment, but I am having trouble running the Motor Test file. I have opened the file so that I can read the text and I could alter the code, but I do not see how to run the file. What are the next steps that I should take to run the Motor Test?

Do you have your computer connected to the pi-bot via USB? If so, click the arrow in the IDE to upload the code to the arduino chip and run it.
Remember, you're actually running the code in the pi-bot, not on your computer.

Hi newbie -- were you able to get your Motor Test to run? Another thing to remember that some users sometimes forget is that both the 9V battery and AA pack must be connected after you disconnect the Pi-Bot from the computer (the 9V provides the 5Vs to power the STEM Board that the computer can also provide via USB cable).
